 CLCT Assistive Technology

Our legal system must be fully available to all if it is truly to be successful. Assistive technology permits full participation in trials, hearings, and other legal procedures by an increasing number of those who might otherwise be limited in mobility, sight, and hearing. CLCT is now working toward becoming the world center for information about the use of assistive technology to assist those in the legal professions and those persons, like jurors, who would benefit from today’s innovative technology. In doing so, CLCT is building on the lessons learned during the 2006 experimental trial, "United States v. Culinary Enterprise of America d/b/a Mom 'N' Pop’s," a cutting-edge assistive technology case.

In October 2007, CLCT and the American Foundation for the Blind Consulting Services jointly launched the Accessible Courts Initiative (ACI), a project dedicated to ensuring that government agencies and court systems, along with their websites and other services, are fully accessible to people with disabilities. ACI offers a full range of consulting services, training, and support services on accessibility issues. For more information, visit www.AccessibleCourts.net

CLCT will endeavor to answer telephone or brief e-mail inquires about assistive technology free of charge as part of its public service function. CLCT is also available for more complex consulting, including ADA-compatible design. In providing consulting services, CLCT can work in conjunction with one or more of its experienced partners.
